Home Nations Snooker Events To Include Wild Cards
The Home Nations series of world ranking events to run during the 2016/17 season will each feature two amateur wild cards from the host nation.
The series will comprise the new English Open, Irish Open and Scottish Open as well as the existing Welsh Open.
Each tournament will feature 128 players in a flat draw. Once all professional tour players have entered, the two wild cards will have next priority, followed by Q School top-ups.

The wild cards will be selected by the respective National Governing Bodies of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, using criteria to be agreed between each NGB and World Snooker.
A similar system was used for the recent Riga Masters ranking event, where amateurs Darren Morgan and Tatiana Vasiljeva were handed wild cards. Morgan enjoyed a superb run to the semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Neil Robertson.
The intention of introducing wild cards is to provide an incentive for the best amateur players to compete in their NGB tournaments with the chance to qualify for a televised ranking event.
Each of the Home Nations events will have total prize money of £366,000, with the winner to receive £70,000. All four tournaments will be televised by Eurosport. Any player winning all four events will receive a massive £1 million bonus.

Scottish Open – Glasgow, December 12-18

Ding Battles Past Georgiou
Ding Junhui came through a tough test against Michael Georgiou in Yushan as he got his Hanteng Autos World Open campaign underway. The Chinese potter, who attracted a large home following for the match, trailed in the early stages. 2008 World Under-21 Champion Georgiou made 71 in the opener and went on to establish a 2-1 lead. However, Ding responded with breaks of 71 and 67, as he moved ahead for the first time. At 4-3, Ding clinically settled the match, making a 117 century break to run out a 5-3 winner.

Higgins Books Holt Clash
John Higgins produced a solid performance on day two at the Hantang Autos World Open in Yushan. The four-time World Champion made two centuries in a 5-2 victory over 2015 Rookie of the Year Oliver Lines. From 3-2 up Higgins compiled breaks of 112 and 69 to wrap up the win. The Scot will face Riga Masters finalist Michael Holt in the last 32.
“I’m very pleased to beat Oliver. I think he is one of the best young players on the tour and is going to have a great future.” said Higgins.

Robertson zu stark für Burns
Neil Robertson hat in der zweiten Runde der Hanteng Autos World Open in Yushan wohl die beste Leistung des bisherigen Turniers gebracht. Er sicherte sich einen Platz unter den letzten 32, indem er Ian Burns in einer unterhaltsamen Begegnung schlug. Die Nummer vier der Welt Robertson kam mit einer 86 im Eröffnungsframe schnell aus den Startlöchern. Weitere Breaks von 102, 60, 71 und 106 Punkten brachten ihm den 5-2 Sieg.

Titelverteidiger Shaun Murphy stellte auch sicher, dass er im Sechzentelfinale dabei ist durch ein 5-2 gegen Cao Yupeng. Der 33-jährige Murphy schnappte sich den ersten Frame auf Schwarz und danach entwickelte sich das Match zu einer engen Sache bis zum vierten Frame, als der Magier dank eines 81er Breaks mit 3-1 vorne lag. Den Vorsprung behielt er bis zum 5-2 Gewinn.

Der Finalist von Riga, Michael Holt brachte seine Ambitionen in Yushan auch zur Geltung, indem er Fergal O’Brien schlug. Allerdings war es der Ire O’Brien, der stark startete, weil er im Eröffnungsframe ein Century von 127 schoss. Ausschlaggebend war Frame 5, als Holt die Farben abräumte, um auf Schwarz 3-2 in Führung zu gehen. Der Hitman holte sich auch die nächsten beiden Frames und spielt nun gegen John Higgins.

Chinas Zhang Anda erfreute sein Heimpublikum mit einem 5-1 Sieg gegen den Weltmeister von 2002 Peter Ebdon. Die 107. der Welt Anda spielte Serien von u.a. 75 und 51 Punkten und trifft nun auf Judd Trump.

Ali Carter hielt in dem erbittersten Duell der Session die Oberhand gegen Mike Dunn. Es brauchte mehr als drei Stunden, bis feststand, dass letztenendlich der Captain 5-3 gewinnen sollte.

Un-Nooh Shocks Selby in Yushan
Mark Selby suffered a shock exit in the last 32 of the Hanteng Autos World Open in Yushan. An inspired Thepchaiya Un-Nooh
secured a 5-3 defeat of the current World Champion. The Thai started strongly, making 64 in the opener before moving into a 2-0 lead. However, Selby fought his way back and drew level at 2-2. Un-Nooh then made 91 in the seventh, to move to the verge of a huge result. Just when Selby had looked set to force a decider, he missed a straightforward yellow which gifted the Thai player one of the biggest wins of his career so far.

“The first few frames I had to stay focused and just think shot by shot. But when he came back to 2-2, I thought the game was gone,” said Un-Nooh. “After the interval I started focusing again and that made me play really well.”
